Abstract
Anatomic Anomalies of the
Carpal Tunnel: a Case Report
David A. Bailey, Julie Oyahon, H.K. Watson
Anatomic anomalies of the carpal tunnel, as a cause for carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS), are not that common. Backhouse and Churchill-Davidson first proposed anatomic anomalies as an etiology for CTS in 1975. More recently Lindley reported, in The Journal of Hand Surgery (Sep. 2003), aberrant muscle bellies in 1.3% of 526 elective carpal tunnel releases. We report two cases of aberrant tendons within the carpal tunnel causing direct constriction of the median nerve, subsequently causing symptomatology.
