ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY

Tanury Industries is a responsible citizen dedicated to the protection, preservation, and improvement of the environment.

Tanury Industries' policy encompasses the following principle which provide guidance to Tanury's employees. These principles also recognize that a sound environmental policy not only protects our habitat but can help to reduce Tanury's operating costs.


TANURY INDUSTRIES' ENVIRONMENTAL PRINCIPLES

  • Tanury Industries recognizes its social responsibility by not passing costs of manufacturing processes on to the environment in the form of waste.

  • Tanury Industries recognizes that pollution prevention is the wisest course of action to avoid waste. Where the generation of waste is unavoidable, Tanury Industries' goal is the elimination of waste and proper disposal of waste in the interim.

  • Tanury Industries has been a solvent free company for over a decade.

  • Tanury is committed to conserving resources and recycling materials used in the manufacturing process. Tanury Industries is committed to waste reduction and/or waste elimination even where environmental regulations have not been mandated.

  • Tanury Industries will actively work to educate its employees and the public regarding environmental preservation.

  • Tanury Industries will work with public groups and governmental agencies to develop technically sound and financially responsible environmental laws and regulations.

 


Tanury Industries has a long-standing commitment to environmentally responsible behavior.

In 1978 the company became the first contract electroplater in the Eastern United States to install an in-line waste-treatment system. Today, Tanury employs a full-time environmental manager who is responsible for the mechanical operation of the system and the good management practices that are employed to prevent pollution.

In the late 1980s Tanury Industries completely eliminated all use of solvents and freon from its facility. These harmful chemicals had been traditionally used by electroplaters as an important part of the degreasing(cleaning) and drying processes. Instead of opting for chemical substitutes, Tanury researched and invested in environmentally safe systems to perform both operations. Today, an aqueous cleaning system has replaced the Trichloroethylene and Perchloroethylene degreasing system, and a conveyorized hot-air drying system is used in place of freon. As a partner in the Better Bay Through Better Education project, Tanury Industries produced over 10,000 magazines which were used in school systems throughout the Southeastern New England Area to increase environmental awareness in school-age children. Tanury continues its community outreach through executive board participation in organizations such as Save the Bay, American Electroplaters and Surface Finishers, and Rhode Island Contract Electroplaters. Tanury Industries also supports the efforts of the Common Sense Initiative.
